Taylor, Taylor & Hobson Cooke Series XI, 6.25 inch (159mm) lens in barrel. Serial number 168618. This lens is in good optical and visual condition. The glass is clean and without marks. The rear glass shows a slight rainbow effect at a certain angle, but is otherwise flawless. The aperture blades are all present and work. The aperture ring moves very smoothly and works throughout its range of f3.5 through f22. The brass is black-painted and the finish is excellent, save for tape residue on the rear barrel. This lens includes a flange built-in to the front part of the barrel.
The serial number indicates that this lens was likely manufactured around 1930. This lens came attached to a Thornton Pickard quarter-plate SLR, but will cover 4×5. It is a triplet design. Use this on your 4×5 camera for a strong performing fast lens with the “Cooke” look. It would function well with a camera with a built-in shutter, and also for wet-plate and other low ISO work.
