An all-purpose vintage lens for 5×7 or 4×5.
Taylor, Taylor & Hobson Cooke Anastigmat Lens Series II, 8 inch (203mm) lens in barrel. Serial number 30573. This lens is in good optical condition. The glass is clean and without marks. The barrel shows a minor dent on the front barrel, and a slight dent in the rear barrel – not enough to affect function. The aperture blades are all present and work, with some oil showing. The aperture ring moves slightly stiffly, but works throughout its range of f4.5 through f16. The brass is bright, but slightly pitted, displaying a lovely patina. This lens includes a flange built-in to the rear part of the barrel.
The serial number indicates that this lens was likely manufactured in 1915. This lens was designed to cover half-plate – it will easily cover 5×7, and can be used on smaller formats. It is a triplet design. Use this on your 4×5 or 5×7 camera for a strong performing medium-speed lens with the vintage “Cooke” look. It would function well with a camera with a built-in shutter, and also for wet-plate and other low ISO work.
